Heli Mangel
I'm Heli Mangel, an Estonian artist living in Cyprus.
I studied art more than twenty years ago, but life took me in a different direction and painting was left behind for a long time. When the business I had worked for over many years closed, it gave me the push and the space to return to something that had always remained part of me.
I am now rediscovering art while developing a style that feels genuinely mine. I'm drawn to the contrast between control and freedom: careful detail beside looser colour, texture, layered paper, thread and unexpected materials. I may work with graphite, acrylic or watercolour, but I do not want to define the work by a fixed list of materials. Each piece can ask for something different.
That freedom to evolve is part of the process. Each new work teaches me something and brings me closer to the ideas I see in my mind.
